Manufactured Home Owners of America Association

The mission of the National Manufactured Home Owners Association (NMHOA) is to promote, represent, preserve, and enhance the rights and interests of manufactured home-owners throughout the United States.Among the basic principles fought for by the founding fathers of this country was that of basic property rights. The owner of a manufactured home shares the same tangible investment as does the owner of a one-bedroom condominium or a fifty-room mansion. NMHOA looks forward to the day when the owner of the manufactured home is accorded the same rights and privileges as the other property owners.First and foremost is the sense of security in their community. Safeguards must be in place to ensure the home-owner’s community is safe from sale and closure without the opportunity of the community to participate in its own self determination. If self determination is not achievable, home-owners should receive fair and just compensation as a result of such actions. If all people lived by the Golden Rule, there would be little need to discuss values and principles. As an organization, we value the principle of treating others the way we would like to be treated. We believe in dealing honestly and treating each other with civility and kindness. We expect the same of those outside our organization and forgive the shortcomings of those who do not meet our expectations. We embrace, endorse, and celebrate our diversity. We reach out to those who we may perceive may be different from ourselves. We seek understanding and to understand. This is not limited to our gender, ethnic, cultural, and religious diversity. It extends to the diversity of thought and ideas. We encourage creativity and looking for new ways to solve old and new problems.

MTPC is a fiscally sponsored 501c3 non-profit with one full-time staff, active Board, dedicated volunteers, and statewide chapters. The aim of MTPC’s programming is to improve the lives of the Massachusetts transgender youth, adults, and their families by 1) organizing and empowering transgender people to advocate for themselves; 2) developing leadership within transgender communities through community education and opportunities; 3) educating the public, the media, and institutions about issues facing transgender communities; 4) increasing the awareness of policy makers about the needs of transgender communities; and 5) advocating for equal access through policy changes at the institutional, state, and local levels. This programming was created in direct response to the needs voiced to MTPC by transgender people through requests and further reiterated in the findings of a 2009 community needs survey conducted by MTPC.

MataHari: Eye of the Day is a Greater Boston organization where women of color, immigrant women, and families come together as sisters, workers, and survivors to make improvements in ourselves and society and work towards justice and human rights. Our goal is to end gender-based violence and exploitation.MataHari recognizes that our communities are impacted by interpersonal institutional, and internalized oppression. We work to understand the root causes of those oppressions, while simultaneously addressing their symptoms. We envision a society without inequity, racism, or violence. We believe that we are and should be capable of determining and transforming our own conditions. We want to build healthy and safe communities that prioritize the voices and leadership of all their members, and that succeed in engaging hearts, mindThe core of our work and vision is a belief in the importance of collective action and people’s leadership as strategies for social change. When marginalized groups are able to engage in arenas of public debate, their voices work to reverse historic oppression and assert that all people, especially the most excluded, are entitled to equal rights, dignified lives, and the opportunity to participate in movements for social justice.

Memphis Bus Riders Union

The Memphis Bus Riders Union (MBRU) is an organization made up of those who are dependent on public transportation and supporters who stand together to put pressure on the officials of MATA and our city government to improve transit services for ALL Memphians!Founded in February of 2012, MRBU fights for better bus service in our city, providing input about MATA practices and policies with key decision-makers, including the MATA board and administration as well as the City Council. Bus riders and supporters come together for monthly meetings where decisions are made democratically by the membership. The work of the MBRU is essential in highlighting and fighting the racism and the oppression based on socioeconomic status as reflected in our city’s grossly inadequate public transportation system: 90% of bus riders are Black, a majority of whom are Women, and 60% have incomes of $18.000 or less. Cuts to bus service combined with inequitable economic development and residential segregation disproportionately effect low-income residents and communities of color.

Migrant Justice

Our mission is to build the voice, capacity, and power of the migrant farmworker community and engage community partners to organize for economic justice and human rights. We gather the migrant farmworker community to discuss and analyze shared problems and envision collective solutions. Through this ongoing investment in leadership development, members deepen their skills in community education and organizing for long-term systemic change. From this basis our members set the agenda and evaluate progress and have prioritized building a movement to secure the fundamental human rights to: 1) Quality health care; 2) Dignified work and fair housing; 3) Freedom of movement and access to transportation; 4) Freedom from discrimination (Immigration Reform; No Police Profiling).

Milk Not Jails

Milk Not Jails is a volunteer-run, grassroots campaign working to build a new urban-rural alliance in New York State. We are urban and rural residents, prison justice activists, farmers, artists, formerly incarcerated people, local food enthusiasts, and prison families who believe that one important way to fix a dysfunctional prison system that plagues both rural and urban people and spaces is to build grassroots alliances amongst urban and rural communities.Founded in March 2010, Milk Not Jails has two immediate goals. First, we seek to end upstate, rural New York’s dependency on the prison economy, which has created a dysfunctional relationship between urban and rural peoples and also has prevented improvements to the State’s criminal justice system from being made. Second, we seek to revitalize and invest in New York’s agricultural economy as a model alternative to the prison economy. Why agriculture? Prisons offer employment opportunities in rural areas, because rural New York is where 90percent of the State’s prisons are located. Agriculture is the historic industry of rural New York and has the proven potential to connect urban and rural peoples in a healthy economic
