The Future is NOW & Important Grant Memo

December 29, 2023

Dear Resister,

2023 was a year for experimentation, reflection, and meeting the moment. While we have witnessed the brunt of capitalism’s compounding crises, devastating climate change, surging prices, war, and now, genocide, we at Resist remain hopeful.

Hopeful that in spite of these interlocking crises, we will keep witnessing historic victories as frontline communities fearlessly lead the resistance, reimagine what’s possible, and build a new future for all of us.

Unlike previous grant cycles, due to funding restraints, Resist had to limit the amount of money our grant panel of current and former grantees were able to redistribute. We also had to cut an entire grant cycle - leaving hundreds of small, radical groups who cannot turn to traditional foundations without necessary funding.

Still, we remained steadfast to our principles and redistributed over $775,000 to groups organizing locally and internationally, while carrying our mission for justice and liberation from Atlanta to Palestine. Thanks to you, we moved $30,000 in Rapid Response funding for 12 groups organizing in solidarity for Palestinian liberation.

Resist grantees don’t give up, they remain hopeful, create new pathways toward justice and liberation, and when they win, WE win. Support the resistance by donating today! Donate Now

Below are just a fistful of Resist grantee wins in 2023 alone thanks to your support.

The Denver Alliance for Street Health Response is getting us closer to a police-free world by enacting public safety without cops. In the span of just 7 months, they successfully responded to 2,837 calls without the need for police intervention!

The Palestinian Youth Movement and the National Students for Justice in Palestine (NSJP) collaborated on organizing the largest protest in U.S. history for Palestine in Washington, D.C. Over 300,000 folks gathered from all over the country to march hand in hand while demanding a ceasefire. Speakers included Noura Erakat, Mohammed el-Kurd, Macklemore, amongst many others. Restore National's collective has raised over $22,000 to cover rent for 12 Black single mothers so that they can stay housed and have money to cover their needs this holiday season.

The W.E.B. Dubois School of Abolition and Reconstruction in Philadelphia hosted their first two cohorts for their movement school. They taught over 50 students about topics like settler colonialism, anti-capitalism, and abolition.

Within Our Lifetime has been doing exceptional work organizing several mass protests throughout the city of New York. Tens of thousands of people have agitated in every borough demanding freedom for Palestinians. It has been an unprecedented number of protests.

When the state of our country seems dark and dire, Resist grantees see through the darkness and imagine brighter, more just days ahead. With your support, our grantees can push the boundaries of what we deem is possible and come out victorious.

We each have a stake in collective liberation. Our grantees will not give up and we know you won’t either.

To resisting and winning together,

Resist Co-directors
