Stronger Beyond Measure, Our May Grant-Making Cycle

August 3, 2021
“If we’re working on providing services for marginalized communities, we can’t continue to use structures and institutions steeped in maintaining the status quo, that work in hand in hand with police and systems that continue to cause harm within our community.” - Vanessa Green, Founder of Call BlackLine (source)

Dear Resister,

Resist grantees know firsthand that for as long as there have been people in power, there have been people oppressed. They also know that when we give our attention and resources to the communities on the frontlines of change who dare to hope, re-imagine, and fight for change, we are stronger beyond measure.

This moment requires us to shift, not only to meet today’s challenge but also to envision and build tomorrow’s world. Our grantees have always risen to the occasion, and our May grant cycle is proof that no matter who is in office when stewarded by the people most impacted, the essential work of justice continues.

This past grant cycle, we redistributed $160,500 to 35 grassroots groups transforming their communities, tackling injustices, and making the impossible possible. We awarded and renewed eight multi-year grants - the most ever in our 53-year history, moving us towards sustained movements and a sustainable future.

But as Resist grantees are establishing networks for mutual aid, responding to community needs amid a pandemic, and continuing their fight for justice and liberation, the need for grassroots groups is ever-growing.

Our grantees need you. The movement needs you. When you make a recurring gift to Resist, it allows us to redistribute funds sustainably and better meet our grassroots groups’ most pressing needs.

Below you can read about three of our Hell Yeah! Grantees, groups that exemplify all of the radical, innovative, and necessary work happening on the frontlines of movements for social justice.
